THIS 2017 CLASS HAS BEEN CONCLUDED.
Writing Wraps, level 1
recommended for grades 4-6
co-teachers–Karen Boniface and Michael Strubler
Anyone can become a competent, even skillful, writer. In this class, students learn to write effective paragraphs through incremental lessons based on a formula approach. Using well-written models and helpful charts as tools, teachers support student success as they practice lessons on topic sentences, support, explanatory detail, wrap-up sentences, organization, and style. The writing process is simplified, always presenting concepts by threes—three kinds of things, three things to know or do, three choices to consider, three pitfalls to avoid. Each new lesson adds to the writer’s toolbox, the tools are always revisited, and accountability to use them is built into the rubrics included in each lesson. Parents and friends are invited to the students’ writing exhibit after the final class.
